Please email our Volunteer Coordinator for more information on how you can volunteer your time to help the animals at AAHS. Please be advised that we do not operate a dog shelter. All of our dogs are in foster homes so we do not have daily opportunities to volunteer with dogs. If you are interested in becoming a dog foster parent, please email Dogs@AthensHumaneSociety.org for more information.
How to Begin Volunteering
The Athens Area Humane Society is a no-kill organization dedicated to lowering area euthanasia rates through adoption, spay/neuter and pet retention programs. We could not do this work without the support of volunteers.

If you have been court mandated to complete service hours, you must follow the community service program requirements below. If you sign up as a regular volunteer, your hours will not count toward court-ordered community service.
All community service is done at 1781 Mars Hill Road in Watkinsville.
If you are required to complete community service hours, you must call our shelter at 706-705-2247 for more information. You can also stop by the shelter during business hours for more information on completing court ordered community service with us. Clarke County offenses must go through the probation officer. We must have your paperwork with the offense listed before we can allow anyone to do Community Service.
