Started in November of 2007, the Athens Area Humane Society Spay/Neuter Center is a program designed to combat pet overpopulation at the heart of the matter.  We have performed over 20,000 life-saving surgeries. 

Our Spay & Neuter Center follows the The Association of Shelter Veterinarians Veterinary Medical Care Guidelines for Spay-Neuter Programs.  We are a National Spay/Neuter Response Team trained clinic through Humane Alliance.

Our purpose is to provide low cost, high quality spays and neuters to the population of Athens-Clarke County and surrounding areas. Our objective is to offer a non-lethal solution to pet overpopulation so that we can lead the way in creating a no-kill community.

Our veterinarian recommends that all animals be current on their vaccines 2 weeks prior to surgery. Vaccines take approximately 2 weeks to be absorbed into the body and begin to protect against diseases. We can administer vaccines on the day of surgery but they are not guaranteed to protect them while they are here with other animals.

Vaccinations and other services are only available at the time of surgery. Please contact your veterinarian for ongoing wellness services or visit one of our monthly Pet Care Clinics.
