Rory -- now Minerva

I adopted Rory in June of 2006. I knew I wanted a kitten for my birthday that year, one that would be more outgoing and friendly with me than our first cat and that would help him lose some weight. After volunteering for an event at the AAHS I had my heart set on a siamese kitten that was in the shelter at the time. The shelter didn't want to adopt the kitten out with out its sibling, and we already had one cat and three would be too many. The staff at the time suggested I play with all the kittens to see if there were any I liked as much. There was one kitten I knew I didn't want, a calico named Rory. I'd never met a nice calico in my two years as a vet tech, and they just don't appeal to me.
I spent time with all the kittens but none of them seemed to be a match. Too shy, or uneasy with being handled, or just not quite right. As I was getting ready to leave dissapointed, Rachel asked me to spend a little time with Rory, so that she would have some out of cage time. Little did I know it would be the end of my search. I pulled her out and she purred the moment I touched her and butted her little head against my chest. When I took her into the playroom she was active and interested in me and I was smitten. I waited a day to be sure and sent in an application for her.
I brought her home a week later and we renamed her Minerva McGonagall. Now Minerva is a slightly pudgy sweetheart. She enjoys harassing her adopted-kittysib Chuck and playing with Wylie, our miniature Dachshund. Please enjoy these pictures of her, showing her house pride, and one of my personal favorites: cuddled with her dog-brother a few days after adoption.
