03/20/13: Dottie, now Snickers, Fits in Right Away with her New Family

blog-image
Dottie, now Snickers, was adopted to the Viahos family a few days ago, and she is already fitting in so well with her home! She has full reign of the family bonus room, which is her safe space to retreat to while she gets used to the rest of the home. She is cautious but very curious and has been venturing out to explore her new digs. In the meantime, her new family is spending lots of time cuddling with her and spending time in the bonus room while she gets used to everything. "She is SO SWEET...so cuddly! She loves every member of the family. She is doing well and is starting to explore... She always comes when we call her....she seems to trust us already" ...

Cocoa Kitty was adopted this fall after waiting for a home for several months. You see, she was a special cat in that she needed to find a home where should could be the only pet, so she had to wait for the right person to fall in love with her. Shannon saw Cocoa Kitty in the Adoption Center, and she realized that her home would be perfect since she doesn't have any other animals... and she didn't want Cocoa Kitty to keep watching all the kittens come to the Adoption Center and be adopted ...

12/10/12: Bonnie Finds her New Home with an AAHS Staff Member

blog-image
I have been around animals through volunteering, and now my job, for so many years that I've learned how to not get attached to every animal that needs a new home (made easier by working at a no-kill shelter). But there are those special moments when you just connect with an animal or know that they're meant for you. Three and a half years ago when I was working at AAHS as an Adoption Counselor, I fell in love with a beautiful calico cat named Jennifer that everyone would always overlook because they thought calicos weren't nice cats or ...

blog-image
Willy's first adopter's tried for a long time to keep him in their family, but he was bullying the other cat in his home too badly. They were very sad to have to return him. Here's what Willy's new adopter had to say about Will,y who is now Binx: "Everything is going so well with Willy, he is now named Binx. He is getting along perfectly with the guide dog in the home, they play tag a lot. He sleeps with Michelle every night and is a great cuddle buddy. She took him to the vet and he got a check up, as well as a heart worm and fecal test, both were negative. ...

11/10/12: Leo and Gimmel (now Rocky) Go Home Together!

blog-image
You may recall our story in the last newsletter about two special adoptable cats, Leo and Gimmel, who had been in our care for several months and were looking for a loving new home together. Well, guess what--a special couple realized how special Leo and Gimmel were and took them home! It was such a happy day for our staff who had been caring for these two guys since March, and we've received two updates on them since. Leo settled in more quickly than Gimmel (now Rocky), but they both transitioned well since they had their own room while getting acquainted with their new house and family. Leo is very loveable and has...

07/19/12: Blueberry Settles into her Fur-ever Home!

blog-image
Blueberry is a special cat who was with AAHS for six months before Lisa saw her at the Adoption Center. She had actually fell in love with another cat, Lucy, who she adopted in February, but she had considered adopting Blueberry before choosing Lucy because she gave her a special feeling. And Lucy has been wonderful in her new home, after overcoming a few initial challenges. After a few months, Lisa noticed that Blueberry was still available for adoption when she checked our website. “I just felt like she had ...
