Adoption Counselor/Animal Tech Position Opening

You can make the difference in the lives of so many animals!

Athens Area Humane Society is seeking a compassionate individual with people and animal skills. Adoption Counselors and Animal Techs are an integral part of our small shelter. You must be dedicated to the job and the animals. You will be required to represent our organization in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

 

Qualifications:

- high school diploma required

- some office skills required

- must be able to spend time on your knees while cleaning   bottom cages

- must be able to operate with little supervision and stick to a schedule; must be willing to take initiative and work independently

- must have excellent people and communication skills; must be tactful and compassionate in dealing with customers

- must be able to change litter and come in contact with fecal matter

- must love cats and have cat care experience; must have knowledge of cat behavior and handling

- must be able to lift up to 40lbs unassisted

- must be able to work on weekends

- must be organized

- must be a fast learner

- animal medical experience a plus, but not required                                                 

- must be able to work in an environment with animals, dust, and cleaning solution

–must be comfortable saying “no” to potential adopters and people wanting to drop off animals at our shelter

 

Job Duties Include, but are NOT limited to:

-        Daily animal care and cleaning, as well as facility cleaning and maintenance

-        Assist adopters in selecting pets and filling out their application

-        Will treat and care for shelter animals including vaccinations, testing, and temperament evaluations

-        Will counsel adopters and community pet owners on pet care and behavior topics, as well as humane/animal welfare issues

-        Will work with the public to explain shelter policies and procedures

-        Will assist with animal intakes, evaluations, and processing

-        Will complete paperwork duties and light office work
